My last blog was December 2015. A great deal has happened with me, and with Polka Dott Photography, since then. All of it has been good. All of it has meant growth and changes and lots of new experiences. Here's just a peek...
We travelled a lot this summer. It was the best summer I can ever remember. Immediately after school ended, we headed to the gorgeous beaches and dear people of the Turks & Caicos Islands. Then, we spent some time a little further north in Tupelo, Oxford, and Louisville, Mississippi visiting family and friends and having a wonderful long visit there. After that we enjoyed the lake and family in Pickwick, Tennessee. After a quick breather back in Knoxville, we boarded another plane and spent a glorious week in Hawaii.
What's the point of this story? We saw a little bit of the world. We spent long hours just enjoying the company of family and friends. We laughed. We ate great food. I gave my cameras a rest, and many of the gorgeous things and people I saw are printed in my brain, not on photo paper.
Being an "artist" means giving your mind a rest. It means a constant dialogue with yourself that always questions, "What am I doing? Am I meant to do this? Am I giving something to the world that it needs, or do I need to change direction?"
This summer, I realized (again) that being a photographer was a gift. I confirmed (again) that I am doing what I am called to do and I am having a wonderful time capturing the beauty of creation and the people in it. I am grateful for my clients, who are funny and loyal and smile in front of my cameras. I am grateful for my family, who carry camera bags and second shoot and cook me dinner when I'm out late.
It's been a wild ride this four years that Polka Dott has been in business. Here's to the next four, and many more.
